FAQs
How old were you when you started diving?
I started when I was five, in the family pool. When my parents saw I was interested in this sport, they signed me up for courses at the CAMO club, and diving quickly became a passion for me.
How many medals have you won in your career?
I’ve been diving for close to 20 years and I’ve taken part in many competitions—provincial, national and international. I don’t know exactly how many I’ve won, but it’s in the hundreds.
Which medals are you most proud of?
Each one has a special meaning for me, but I’d say it’s the gold medals I won in Montreal at the FINA world championships in 2005 and, of course, my Olympic medal in Athens in 2004.
What are your best qualities?
It’s hard to say, but I guess determination, perseverance and perfectionism.
What’s your greatest fault?
Perfectionism!
How do you get ready for a competition? What do you think about?
I don’t really have a ritual before I dive. I just try to stay focused on the dive I’ll be doing and forget about what’s going on around me. This takes a great deal of concentration.
Do you have an idol?
I’ve always admired former diver Greg Louganis. In 2007, I had an opportunity to meet him in person. I was really impressed! He was the one who motivated me to keep diving and get better, and I finally had a chance to thank him face to face.
