July 24, 2009: Another bronze medal

Hi everyone,

Yesterday was the final for the 3m dive. I came third and won the bronze medal. It was a satisfactory performance considering the year I’ve had. It was tough because of the injuries. I had done only one international competition and had just started training again. To compete at the World Championships against the same athletes as at the Olympics and to win not only one but two bronze medals is a very positive thing.

I’m satisfied with my performance now, but my initial reaction was disappointment, because I had a chance at winning and placing first, especially since I normally don’t miss on the last dive I do. But my disappointment didn’t last long. I was disappointed because I just realized that if I had succeeded on my last dive, I would be world champion. But talking with Arturo, my coach, made me see things differently: getting back into competition after several months of rest because of injuries and still placing among the top three in the world is highly encouraging. It’s a good sign for the future, simply because I’m healthy and I’ll be able to get back into the regular competition schedule.

As for Reuben, he had trouble with his fourth dive and finished the competition in 11thplace, which is still really good!

Overall, I’m pleased with my Worlds, especially with Reuben in the synchro. We turned in an excellent performance and are really motivated for the next competitions.

Otherwise, I’ll be back in Canada on the weekend. Check out the gallery: I’ve added some photos!

See you soon,

Alex
