August 20, 2008: Alexandre meet the McDonald’s Champion Kids
By the Website team
This morning in Beijing (yesterday night for us), Alexandre participated at an event with the Canadians and Chinese McDonald’s Olympic Champion Kids.
The Champions were chosen based on their commitment to fitness and a balanced, active lifestyle, for demonstrating leadership among their peers, and for participating in a variety of extracurricular activities. Emily Bulten of Cambridge, Ontario and Max Newton of Vancouver, BC were chosen to represent Canada at the 2009 Beijing Olympic Games. They arrived in China Monday as part of the McDonald’s Champion Kids program. Throughout their time in Beijing, they will have the chance to experience the Games, meet athletes, visit cultural sites and interact with other kids from around the world.
To celebrate the transition to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, the McDonald’s Champion Kids marked the occasion with a traditional Chinese gift exchange followed by a game of street hockey with Alexandre Despatie.
“Meeting Max and Emily and experiencing the Games through their eyes is so rewarding. Today’s event further strengthens the Olympic spirit in kids around the world and highlights how excited everyone is about the Games coming back to Canada,” Alex said.
You can see pictures of that event in the 2008 Olympics Picture Gallery.
