August 16, 2008: We visited nice places!

By Pierre and Christiane Despatie

It’s been a week now since we have been in China. So far we are loving the trip! There are so many things to see! We visited the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square: both were amazing!

We had a little adventure during our visit to the Great Wall. On that day, there was a strong thundershower – a real storm! We had to hide at the top of a mountain for more than three hours until the showers ended. A few people were even hit by lightning! Thankfully we are safe and we still had the chance to admire this huge wall.

As for the temperature, the situation is getting better since that strong storm. On the first days of our trip it was very hot and humid. Even early in the morning it was 38° Celsius! That was tough for the athletes competing on those days. Ever since the shower, though, it has been much more comfortable. There is no more smog and the humidity is normal.

Alexandre is doing really well. He is concentrating on his training for the individual event – the preliminary session starts tonight.

We will send you more news soon!
